Celebrate the season with the bold beauty of amaryllis plants. Known for their stunning trumpet-shaped blooms, amaryllis adds elegance and charm to any home. Whether as a gift or a centerpiece, their vibrant flowers are a show-stopping addition to your holiday décor.

1. Light:
Place your amaryllis in bright, indirect sunlight. A south- or west-facing window is ideal. Rotate the pot occasionally to encourage even growth.

2. Watering:

  • Water sparingly until the flower stalk appears, keeping the soil barely moist.
  • Once the plant starts growing, water whenever the top inch of soil feels dry. Be sure the pot has good drainage, as amaryllis bulbs don’t like sitting in water.

3. Temperature:

  • Keep the plant in a warm spot (60–75°F or 15–24°C). Avoid cold drafts or extreme temperature changes.
  • Cooler nighttime temperatures (55–60°F or 13–15°C) can help prolong the blooms.

4. Fertilizer:
Once the flower stalk appears, feed the plant every 2–4 weeks with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer to support blooming and growth.

5. Staking:
If the flower stalk becomes tall and top-heavy, use a stake to support it and prevent tipping.

6. Post-Bloom Care:

  • Once the flowers fade, cut the stalk back to 1–2 inches above the bulb, leaving the leaves intact.
  • Continue watering and feeding to allow the bulb to store energy for the next bloom cycle.

7. Dormancy:
After the growing season, let the leaves die back naturally, then stop watering. Store the bulb in a cool, dry place (50–55°F or 10–13°C) for 8–10 weeks before restarting the growth cycle.

8. Repotting:
Amaryllis bulbs thrive in snug pots with well-draining soil. Repot every few years or when the bulb outgrows its container.

9. Pet Safety:
Amaryllis plants are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested, especially the bulbs. Keep them out of reach of pets to avoid potential health issues like vomiting, drooling, or diarrhea.

With a little care, your amaryllis will bloom beautifully, year after year!
